I struggled to put my eye to the viewfinder today. The victims’ families walked past me no more than an arm’s length away… some crying, others silent and in shock. My old high school friend among them. I couldn’t do it.
Instead, I have photographs of a young gentleman, alone with a bouquet of flowers with his head held low, quietly singing along to Amazing Grace. I have shots of others present to pay their respects as they watch the families exit the courtyard. But that’s all.
The community of Aurora amazed me tonight with such an incredible turnout to pay their respects to those that were lost on Friday. Thousands gathered to show those who remain that they are not alone.
